Essays

All throughout high school especially junior and senior year my teachers really cracked down on us when it came to writing a 5 paragraph essay. Throughout junior high is when I remember when we were taught how to correctly write an essay and knowing what each paragraph needed. For example I remember my teacher going over how many sentences each paragraph should contain and the 5 paragraph's which are labeled as introduction, first body paragraph, second body paragraph, third body paragraph, and the conclusion at last to finish it all off. From that point till about sophomore year all of my essays were simple. Later on about half way through junior year I believe is when I started learning more about citing and using sources from books, articles, magazines, etc. to create an essay. I then learned how to cite certain references since there all used differently so have a little twist here and there when citing and formatting. Now in college I continue to keep on learning about using references to create an essay and gathering certain information in certain paragraphs to develop the purpose of my essay. In middle school I probably would've said writing an essay is easy and to some it might be, but over these last 2 years I have figured out that I struggle a bit on putting or phrasing certain sentences in the right place in my paragraphs to connect the overall purpose in my essays depending on what the professor wants me to do. Generally speaking I continue to learn and haven't reached a point where I would say my essays are "good" there just average and is something I want to work on.

Thank you for taking your time and reading my blog!!!!

  1. I've finally got over the mindset of essays having to be five paragraphs, although the thing I tend to do wrong is when I restate to much things from my introduction in the conclusion. I just have to work on it because they pretty much say the same thing.

  2. High school essays were so mind numbing to write because of how strict they were on the format. Felt like they would hold your hand way too much.
